AiM AN-ID

AiM AN-ID is a research collaborative that aims to fast-track neonatal research using machine learning. Artificial Intelligence has the capacity to make every experience from a baby or parent count towards research. The level of detail and pattern recognition has the capacity to reduce the burden for future families that need access to critical care.

Action Medical Research

Action Medical Research is a leading UK-wide charity saving and changing children’s lives through medical research. For more than 65 years we’ve helped pioneer ways to prevent disease and develop treatments benefiting millions of people. Our research has helped to beat polio in the UK, develop ultrasound in pregnancy, fight meningitis and prevent stillbirths. But we urgently need to develop more new treatments and cures for sick babies and children and we can’t do it without you.

GREAT NORTH NEONATAL BIOBANK

The Great North Neonatal biobank (GNNB): using ‘waste’ samples to understand, treat and prevent NEC

New study investigating how breastmilk protects premature babies from NEC

NEC and other infections in premature infants are linked to imbalances in the microorganisms inside the baby’s gut – the microbiome. Breast milk is known to reduce the risk of NEC, with evidence suggesting that this is due to immune-boosting factors.
